Euro 2012 - Day 1 Wrap

Two games from Group A concluding a thrilling first day of EURO 2012. Co-Host Poland earned a controversial 1-1 draw with Greece, and Russia steamrolled The Czech Republic 4-1. The opening game of the tournament, held in Warsaw, was a tale of two halves. Poland were by far the better team in the first 45, grabbing a goal through Dortmund hit man Robert Lewandoski. Greek defender Sokratis was sent of for two bookable offences. The Second half saw the Greeks draw level through substitute Dimitris Salpingidis. Another sending off saw Polish and Arsenal keeper Wojiech Szsceny see red for a last man challenge on Salpingidis. However, Greek captain Karagounis had his effort saved by 2nd string keeper from PSV, Prezmyyslaw Tyton.

In the late game, Russia steamrolled the Cezch's 4-1, be hid incredible performances from Andrei Arshavi and Alan Dzagoev. Arshavin registered 2 assists and Dzageov enhanced his growing reputation through 2 well taken goals. Dzageov opened the scoring before Roman Shirokov doubled the lead inside 2 minutes. Vaclav Pilar cut the deficit in half before two late goals from Roman Pavlychenko and another strike from the CSKA man Dzagoev,

Player Of The Day: Alan Dzagoev. Rumoured to have a large amount of interest from top Premier League clubs, Dazgeov proved why with a breathtaking performance on the opening day.
